Valuable Equity Funding Now Available For Dorset Businesses

Dorset LEP Announces Funding Accelerator Support for Local Businesses

The Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) announced a valuable opportunity for local businesses seeking equity funding which began in January 2024. In collaboration with Dorset-based funding specialist, Focused For Business, the LEP is offering heavily subsidised places on the Funding Accelerator programme, this is set to continue into 2025!

This tailored, three-month online programme is designed to support startups in preparing for funding by refining their investment documents, including pitch decks, financial forecasts, and business valuations. Throughout the course, participants will receive feedback on their documents, helping them to develop and run a successful funding campaign. The programme also guides founders on how to identify and pitch to the right investors, providing them with an investor “hit list” and essential insights into selecting investors, negotiating terms, and successfully securing funding.

Exclusive Opportunity for Dorset SMEs

Shelley Collins-Trevett, Head of Business Growth and Inward Investment at Dorset LEP, expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “We are thrilled to extend this exclusive opportunity, providing heavily subsidised places on the esteemed Funding Accelerator programme in collaboration with Focused for Business. This initiative is specifically tailored for start-up and scale-up SMEs within the Dorset LEP area, and it invites four ambitious local businesses to invest in their growth. With the support of Dorset LEP, these businesses will be empowered to secure funding that propels them toward their next significant milestone.”

This programme is part of the broader “Funding and Investment Readiness Programme” from Dorset LEP, with funds allocated by the Department for Business and Trade, reinforcing the region’s commitment to supporting local businesses.

A Proven Track Record of Success

Hatty Fawcett, founder of Focused For Business and facilitator of the Funding Accelerator, emphasized the significance of this initiative. “Research shows that it is harder for businesses based outside of London to raise equity investment, but at Focused For Business, we believe that startup investment should be accessible to everyone, and the process shouldn’t be over-complicated or time-consuming. Over the past 12 months, we’ve secured more than £5 million in investment for businesses that have gone through our programme, despite the challenging funding climate. As a Dorset-based business owner myself, I’m thrilled to help other local businesses access the funding they need to grow.”

Funding Support for Eligible Businesses

The Dorset LEP is offering substantial financial support for this online accelerator programme, covering two-thirds of the £3,000 fee per business. Successful applicants will only need to contribute the remaining £1,000 + VAT. This subsidised rate makes the programme a cost-effective way for Dorset businesses to get investment-ready.

However, the number of funded places is limited, and businesses must apply promptly to secure their spot. As the programme is set to continue in 2025, those interested in participating are encouraged to apply immediately by completing the Startup Investment Scorecard. This quick and easy assessment will evaluate how “investment-ready” their business is and identify areas where they may need additional support. Only businesses that complete the application and receive confirmation of their acceptance onto the programme will be eligible for part-funding.

How to Apply

Interested businesses should apply as soon as possible to ensure their eligibility. The first step is to complete the Startup Investment Scorecard, which will quickly assess your business’s investment-readiness. Once accepted, you will be guided through the entire funding preparation process, setting you up to secure the funding your business needs to grow.

This is a unique opportunity for Dorset-based startups and scale-ups to access the expert support they need to succeed in raising equity investment. With limited places available, businesses are encouraged to apply early to take full advantage of this exclusive opportunity.
